Outlook: Activate SSL encryption
This practical tip shows you in a few steps how to activate SSL encryption in Outlook.
Encryption with SSL - this is how your e-mail dispatch becomes secure
In today's world, the secure sending and receiving of emails is becoming increasingly important. With a few simple steps, your email program can also be set up safely. The steps are illustrated again in the picture gallery.
- Open Outlook, click File -> Information -> Account Settings.
- A new window opens listing your email accounts. Select your already set up email account from the list and click on "Change".
- In the account settings, you can go directly to the SSL settings in the "Advanced" tab via the "Additional settings" button.
- Four entries are required to switch your email account. The port for incoming and outgoing servers, the encrypted connection type, and confirmation that the server requires an encrypted connection. Confirm your entries by clicking the "OK" button and close all settings windows.
Encryption - data is provided by the email provider
Your e-mail account has now been switched to the secure SSL method. The ports and connection types mentioned in point four can vary. You can get this from your email provider.
Tested under Windows 7 SP1, Outlook 2010. Read here how to add a new account in Outlook.
