Outlook: toolbar disappeared - what to do?
In this practical tip, we explain what you can do if the toolbar has disappeared in Outlook. The problem is caused by a file called Outcmd.dat.
Outlook: Toolbar disappeared - how to fix the problem
Exit Outlook and then follow the steps below.
- In Windows 8, search for the "Outcmd.dat" file in the app menu and in Windows 7 via "Start".
- If you find several files with this name, open the file that is in your personal Outlook folder. Check the file path by looking at the folder path.
- Then right-click on the file and select "Properties" from the open menu.
- Under the "General" tab, deactivate the "Read-only" option.
- Save the change with "OK" and then restart Outlook.
Rename the Outcmd.dat file
If the Outcmd.dat file was not write-protected, the file may be corrupt.
- Simply rename the file, for example "Outcmd2.dat".
- If you then restart Outlook, the program creates the standard toolbars again.
