Outlook: text cannot be formatted - what to do?
If the text cannot be formatted in Outlook, the mail client has adopted the "plain text" format from the original message. We show you how to change this here.
Mail text in Outlook cannot be formatted - you can do that
If you reply to an email, Outlook automatically adopts the original format. For messages in "plain text" format, your input is very limited. For example, you cannot set links and cannot bold or change the size of the written text. You can also see this from the fact that all format options are grayed out. To change the message format:
- Click on the "Format text" tab (box 1 in the screenshot).
- Here you will find the three format types "HTML", "Text only" and "Rich text" in the "Format" column (see box 2).
- To be able to format your text again, click here on the "HTML" tab.
