Outlook does not display umlauts - what to do?
If Outlook no longer shows the umlauts in your emails, this is usually due to an outdated Outlook file. We'll show you how to solve the problem.
Step 1: Outlook does not display umlauts - export data file
- Go to the "File" tab in the top left corner of Outlook and select "Import / Export" under "Open and export".
- Click on "Export to file" and select "Outlook data file (.pst)" as the file type.
- Activate the "Include subfolders" option and confirm the process with the "Finish" button. The password is optional.
Step 2: Outlook does not display unauthorized persons - create a new data file in Outlook
- Switch to the "File" tab again and select the option of the same name under "Account Settings".
- Go to the "Data Files" tab above and click the "Add" button.
- "My Outlook data file (1) .pst" is now selected as the file name. You can change it as you like, but you don't have to.
- Make sure that "Outlook data files (* .pst)" is selected as the file type. Then click "OK".
- Select the new data file and click on the "Set as default" button at the top. You can then close the window.
Step 3: Show umlauts in Outlook again
- Switch to the "File" tab in the top left again and select "Import / Export" under "Open and export".
- Select the option "Import from other programs or files" and "Outlook data file (.pst)".
- Then select your previously created backup and click on "Next" and "Finish". Outlook should now display umlauts again.
