OwnCloud sync with Android: data, calendar, contacts
You can automatically sync your OwnCloud data cloud with your Android devices. We'll show you how to easily transfer contacts, calendar entries and data.
Synchronize data with the OwnCloud app
Similar to the Dropbox app, OwnCloud also offers its own app that synchronizes files for you.
- Install the app on all Android devices and you will get a user interface that is similar to the browser version.
- Now you can simply synchronize them by copying, pasting and deleting files on all registered devices.
- You can also use the app to share files and folders with other users.
- However, you need your own apps for contact details and calendar entries.
Sync with CardDAV Android and OwnCloud contacts
To synchronize contact data between OwnCloud and your Android devices, you need the third-party app CardDAV.
- Install the CardDAV-Sync free app.
- In the app, select "Add account" -> "CardDAV".
- Then enter the URL of your OwnCloud address book without the addition "//".
- To find out the correct URL, open the address book in your browser and then click on the gear in the bottom left.
- Now choose whether you want to use a secure SSL connection.
- The next step is to store your OwnCloud login data so that the app can connect to your account.
- Now select the account on the server and you're done.
- Optionally, you can activate "Only from server to device". This means that your Android device pulls new contacts from your OwnCloud, but does not upload your own contacts.
- There is also a Pro version of CardDAV-Sync for currently 1.90 euros, with which you can synchronize more contact details. Consider this paid version if you need such additional features.
Sync Android calendar with OwnCloud
There is also a suitable Android app for synchronizing your OwnCloud calendar: CalDAV-Sync.
- This app is only available for a fee for currently 2.59 euros.
- The settings work similarly to CardDAV.
- Select the CalDAV option for the accounts and enter your server address.
- You can find this again by opening the corresponding calendar in your OwnCloud account and clicking on the gear in the lower left.
- You can again choose for or against an SSL connection.
- Now enter your login data and test the connection.
