You can also create a template for Pages. This is how you set up formatting, on the basis of which you can later create numerous documents. We show you exactly how to save a page as a template in Pages.
Pages: Why do templates make sense?
It makes sense to create a template on Pages if you want to use a specific document as the basis for further documents.
- But even if you always use the same letterhead for letters, you can use a template.
- You can call up the saved template again and again if necessary and supplement it with the necessary data.
Creating a template in Pages - Instructions
If you already have an existing document that you want to save as a template, proceed as follows:
- Open the corresponding document or create a new document. Do all formatting and enter all text. Then select "File" in the top left corner.
- Find the "Save as template" option and click on it.
- Now you have two options: Either add the template to the template selection. It then appears in the Pages start menu in the "My Templates" category.
- Alternatively, you can also select "Save". Then enter a name for the template and select a storage location.
- The advantage here: If you save the template in your iCloud, the template will also be on other iOS devices the next time you open Pages. For example, you can also use the template on the iPad.
Create your own template with Pages
- Open Pages and start with any template (either "Blank" or another).
- Now you can insert placeholders for texts or media, watermarks or even background objects.
- Alternatively, you can also create placeholders yourself. For media, select an image and then click "Format", "Advanced" and then "Define as media placeholder".
- Do the same for text placeholders. Here you only have to select a text first.
- To insert watermarks or background objects, first select the object or the text. Then click Arrange, Section Templates, and then click Move Object In Section Template.
- If you want to delete an existing placeholder or a background graphic (again), select "Arrange" at the top of the screen, then "Section templates" and "Make template objects selectable".
- Then select the object to be deleted and press the backspace key on the keyboard.
- Finally, click again on "File" and "Save as template" to save the template as described above.
Change template later
Of course, you can also make changes to your saved template afterwards:
- To delete or rename the template, click on the name of the template while holding down the [CTRL] key. Then choose between "Rename" and "Delete".
- Please note, however, that you cannot delete templates that are already part of Pages.
- If you want to edit the content of the template, select "File", "New" within Pages and then select the appropriate template.
- Then make the changes and save them via "File" and "Save as template". Again, you have the choice between saving or adding to the template selection. The old template can be deleted after creating the new one.
