PageSpeed Insights: The most important functions simply explained
The PageSpeed Insights are a practical tool from Google, with which the loading speed of a page can be evaluated. In this article we explain the main uses.
The PageSpeed Insights can do that
PageSpeed Insights can be used to analyze the loading time of a website for mobile and desktop devices. Any URL can be selected for this. And this can be measured with PageSpeed Insights:
- On the one hand, the page speed can of course be measured per se. A distinction is made between the categories "slow", "average" and "fast".
- The page layout distribution belongs to the page speed. It shows what percentage of the values measured for the website in the CrUX were classified as "almost". The values for the categories "slow" and "average" are also visible.
- On the other hand, the value of the optimization can be determined. This is about how the website compares to "Best Practice".
- In addition, the page statistics function can be used to check how often information has to be sent back and forth between the browser and the delivering server. These factors are called round trips.
More tips on PageSpeed Insights
PageSpeed Insights can show much more than page speed or page statistics. For example, they also offer optimization suggestions:
- The optimization suggestions from Google include best practice categories and the resources of the corresponding URL. These include, for example, redirects and pictures.
- In the menu, you can also display other categories for which Google has not found any defects on the analyzed website.
- PageSpeed Insights are not the only service from Google. If you also use other services, you can get a comprehensive picture of the URL.
- If you use Chrome, you can also use the already integrated Lighthouse audit tool; with this you can look at other factors of the loading time of a page.
