Paint now has all the basic image editing features. The colors in your picture can also be replaced. We show you exactly how this works in this manual.
Replace color with paint
Microsoft Paint is preinstalled on every version of Windows. The image editing tool is just a simple program with basic functions. Therefore, only individual color sections can be colored with Paint. Unlike Gimp, for example, you cannot have certain colors automatically replaced in the entire image. Instead, you have to color each section manually.
- To do this, switch to the "Start" tab and click on the icon with the overturned bucket in the "Tools" section (see picture).
- Then select the desired color in the "Colors" section with which you want to replace the image section.
- Tip: You can use the "Edit palette" button to choose your desired color from a color spectrum. Once you've selected the color you want, click "Add Color" and "OK" to add it to the color palette in Paint.
- Now click on the color to be changed in your picture. Paint now replaces this with the color you just selected.
- Note, however, that Paint has no gradients. Therefore, only all pixels of the exact same color are replaced. This can lead to poor results for leaking elements and fonts. In our example picture the black border is still visible.
- If you want to intelligently replace the different levels of a color in your image, you can't avoid a professional image editing program like Gimp.
We explain on the next page how to make the background transparent in Paint.
