Papa John's: What you should know about the US pizza chain
Papa John's Pizza is an American pizza chain. Even though the pizza is tasty and the delivery service is convincing, the founder of the restaurant made the chain unpopular in the USA.
Papa John's Pizza: It's about the chain
Papa John's is the fourth largest pizza chain in the United States. As of 2019, it will take over 14 branches in Germany. An expansion on the German market is planned. But the company is very controversial because of its founder in the USA.
- In the USA, the company gained popularity primarily through its pizza sauces. Founder John Schnatter invented this in his initial pizza snack. Now there is a free garlic dip and chilli peppers for every pizza delivered. Customers can dip their pizza edges into them.
- Papa John's is also known as a sponsor for the United States National Football League. Former quarterback Peyton Manning promoted the pizza chain for a long time.
- Nevertheless, the chain is heavily criticized for its founder John Schnatter. This has damaged the reputation of the company due to its controversial and racist statements. Above all, liberal and left-wing Americans don't like him.
- In 2017 he criticized football players who protested racist police violence before the start of the NFL games. After he uttered a word for dark-skinned people during a phone call, Schnatter lost his position as a supervisory board member and advertising face.
- Schnatter also paid his employees the lowest wages, spoke out against general health insurance and helped Donald Trump in the election campaign.
- Although the chain comes from the USA, the Russian company PJ Western organizes the expansion in Germany.
