Trash disappeared - what to do?
Usually the trash is on the desktop. If it has disappeared from there, you can bring it back with these instructions.
Show trash again - how it works in Windows
The easiest way to show the trash is again using the desktop icon settings:
- Right-click an empty area on the desktop. Select "Customize" from the context menu.
- In the new window, click on "Change desktop icons" and the desktop icon settings will open.
- In the "Desktop Icons" area, check the box next to "Trash". Then click on the OK button.
Return the Windows recycle bin via the registry
If the previous instructions do not work for any reason, an intervention in the Windows registry may also be necessary:
- Open the registry editor.
- In the left pane of the window, open this path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ Desktop \ NameSpace.
- Right-click on "Name Space". First select "New" and then "Key". Name the key {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}.
- Select the new key. In the right part of the program window, double click on "(Standard)". Enter the name "Recycle Bin" (without the quotation marks). Then click on "OK" and close the registry editor.
- Return to the desktop and press F5.
This practical tip is based on Windows 8. In another practical tip, we will show you how to restore files from the recycle bin.
