It takes just a few clicks to restore items from your trash. Your trash can icon is hidden on the desktop - from here everything that you previously moved to the trash can be restored. In this tip, we also explain how you can bring the wastebasket back to the desktop yourself if you accidentally removed it.
Restore the entire trash
- Click the trash can icon on your desktop and open the trash can. Now you can see the button "Restore all elements" in the upper left corner. (see screenshot)
- Clicking on it will ask if you really want to restore all items from your trash. If you confirm with "Yes", all items previously moved to the recycle bin will be restored.
Restore a single item from the trash
If you do not want to restore your entire recycle bin, but only individual elements from it, then this works as follows:
- After opening the recycle bin as described in the first point above, search for the item to be restored.
- After double-clicking on the desired element, an extra box opens in which the properties are displayed. Click on the "Restore" field at the bottom right. (see screenshot)
- After confirming with "OK", you will find the item in the folder in which it was saved before the deletion.
How can I restore the trash icon on the desktop?
The trash can icon (unfortunately), like any other icon, can be deleted from the desktop very quickly. To undo this action:
- After right-clicking anywhere on the desktop, an info box opens in which you click on "Customize".
- Then go to the "Change desktop icons" button on the left side of the new box.
- Now all you have to do is check the "Trash" (see screenshot) and confirm the new setting with "OK" or "Apply". The recycle bin is now available as an icon on your desktop again.
