Partition USB stick with software or Windows tool?
If you want to partition a USB stick, there are different ways to achieve your goal. It works easiest with additional software, it gets a little more complicated with the command line.
- The easiest way to do the partitioning is with software. Here you can use the free MiniTool Partition Wizard . Thanks to the simple operation and menu navigation, even inexperienced users can find their way around very quickly.
- The Diskpart tool is not that easy to use. Precisely because the tool was written for the command line, it does not have a menu navigation in the actual sense, but you have to type the commands using the keyboard. If you are not familiar with the commands, it can quickly become confusing.
Partition with MiniTool Partition Wizard
The easiest way is with this tool. Here you can quickly and easily create new partitions and then use them. The tool is not only capable of partitioning hard disks. You can also edit USB sticks in the same way.
- After you have installed and started the program, you are in the main screen, which is kept in the tile design. On this screen, select the "Disk & Partition Management" button.
- The next screen lists the hard drives and their partitions. Here you search for your USB stick in the lower right window and mark it.
- When you have selected the USB stick, the menu on the left changes a little. To create another partition, select the "Split partition" button.
- In the following window you determine the size of the partition. To do this, move the slider to the desired position or enter the values in the fields below.
- Now confirm your setting with the "Confirm" button to close the window. So that the settings are now also adopted, you must click on "Apply" in the upper menu on the left and confirm the following dialog. The program then begins its work.
- Now that the partitioning is complete, all you have to do is format the newly created partition.

- The first thing to do is to select and mark the partition.
- Now the menu on the left has changed again and you will now find the item "Format partition". You have to click on this.

- Leave the file system and cluster size at the default values. With a click on "OK" you start the process and the program formats the partition.
