Read passwords from the browser

If you have forgotten a password, you can read your saved passwords in any browser. We'll show you how it works on Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge and Internet Explorer.
Google Chrome: Read out saved passwords
- Click on the menu button in the top right of the browser. It consists of three horizontal lines arranged one below the other.
- Select "Settings" at the bottom of the menu. The settings then open in a new tab.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click "Advanced." Further settings open.
- Scroll down a bit again until you reach the "Passwords and forms" category. Click on "Manage passwords" here.
- You will now see a list of all websites on which you have already logged in with an ID. You will not only see the login name, but also the password.
- To display the password, click on the eye symbol and enter the password for your Windows user to confirm.
Microsoft Edge: Read passwords from the browser
Note: The passwords can be managed in Microsoft Edge, but not read out. The following instructions also work for Internet Explorer.
- Open the Control Panel and select the "User Accounts" there.
- You will now find all saved passwords in the "Login information management".
- Select the desired website and click on "Show" next to "Password".
- If you then enter your Windows password, the login password of the website is displayed.
Internet Explorer: Read passwords from the browser
In Internet Explorer you cannot read out all passwords using the instructions above. You need an extra tool:
- Download the IE Asterisk Password Uncover program for free.
- Open the tool and click the green play button in the top left.
- Start Internet Explorer and open the website from which you need your login data.
- Once the page loads, the program displays both the username and password.
Mozilla Firefox: Read out saved passwords
- Start Firefox and select the "Settings" from the top right menu.
- Go to the "Privacy & Security" tab on the left and click the "Saved Access Data" button on the right.
- If you select the "Show passwords" option, you will be shown the required data for each saved login.
