Forgot Excel File Password - What To Do?
If you have forgotten the password for an Excel file, you have only two options: remember the password or crack the access. We can help you with that.
Forgot password for Excel file: Remember
Even if you have probably already tried to remember, here are a few tips on how you might still get the password.
- Keep calm: take some time and think about the time when you assigned the password. Did you assign the same password as always? Or have you given another one and if so, why?
- Typo: Often the password is not forgotten, but simply entered incorrectly. Check the capitalization ("test" instead of "test") and whether the caps lock was activated ("tEST" instead of "test").
- Try it out: Try various combinations. Perhaps the entry of a letter was forgotten ("est") or you held the Caps Lock key too long when typing quickly ("TEst").
Crack password for Excel file
If you don't remember the password at all, all that's left is to crack the password. According to the current legal situation, however, you may only do this for files whose author you are. Crack other people's Excel files and make yourself strictly punishable.
- Unfortunately, many tools for cracking Excel passwords are no longer offered for legal reasons. The passwords are very well encrypted, especially for the 2007, 2010 and 2013 Office versions.
- A well-functioning tool is Advanced Office Password Recovery, which also costs a decent price at 50 euros.
You can find more tools for cracking passwords, which unfortunately do not specialize in office files, in this practical tip.
