Pathfinder Kingmaker: All information about the gameplay
Pathfinder: Kingmaker is a Kickstarter-funded isometric RPG in the sense of Baldur's Gate and Fallout, which is equipped with new and well-known gameplay mechanics. You can find the necessary information in our article.
Gameplay in a classic guise: Greetings from Baldur's Gate
Pathfinder: Like other role-playing games of the past few years, Kingmaker is strongly inspired by classics such as Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale or the first two parts of Fallout. This can also be seen in a variety of gameplay mechanics:
- Character Creation: There are eight races available, including classics like elves and humans or exotic animals like Aasimar, and 14 classes like in other RPGs. At the start of the game you will create your character and assign attributes to it. Beginners should read the tool tips here or ask an experienced Dungeons & Dragons player for help. The possibilities are very extensive.
- Group: You can manage your group as you want. With a group size of six adventurers, it is easily possible to adapt the group to your own wishes. The allocation of equipment, weapons and objects is also possible.
- Dialogue: Dialogue is the driving force of the game. These accept quests, improve or worsen relationships with companions and characters, and advance the story. You have a choice of numerous answers that noticeably influence the outcome and story of the game.
- Freely accessible world: Over 200 areas are available for adventurers to explore. In itself, the entire world can be explored, only it is not an open world. Each area is separated by a loading screen. Nevertheless, it is easily possible to explore the game world away from the main quest. In addition, you can theoretically do whatever you want as long as you respect the game's general time limit.
- Dice: Decisions, battles and many other aspects of Pathfinder: Kingmakers are decided on lucky dice like in classic role playing games. This is particularly exciting when your group is in a difficult situation.
- Fights: The battles in Pathfinder are turn-based, but can be paused at any time. The character with the highest initiative is always the first to act, which can completely transform fights.
Cities management in detail
Right at the start of your journey, you will conquer a region in the game world that you will manage on your own from this point on. This gives Pathfinder: Kingmaker an interesting change compared to other role-playing games like Skyrim, in which only houses can be built. In your barony you can:
- Build and upgrade buildings, similar to games like Heroes of Might and Magic and others.
- Optimize building placement to increase income and resident satisfaction.
- Recruit NPCs to run the barony or improve through quests.
- Protect from enemies and take over other regions through military power.
- Maintaining your barony is particularly important. The less you care about them, the more the condition worsens. More and more residents say goodbye and the buildings fall into disrepair. In the end, you have to put more effort into the barony to save it.
- Your character's disposition greatly influences the general mood in your barony. When you make evil decisions, you rule as a bully and vice versa. This is an interesting game mechanic that gives a special insight into the game world. Every decision really affects the course of your kingdom.
