With PayPal you can reclaim your money if you have complaints about a purchase or your PayPal account has been misused by third parties. In this guide we show how it works.
How to claim your money back at PayPal
You can claim your money back at PayPal within 180 days of payment. Before you get your money back in full or in part, the case will be checked by the seller and, if applicable, by PayPal. Follow the steps below to begin the process.
- Log in to the PayPal website using your email address.
- Under the menu item "Activities" you will find a list of all your previous purchases. Select the one whose payment you want to get back.
- In the details of the payment, click the "Report a problem" menu item. You can report the problem you are experiencing on the following page.
- If you have problems with items, you can choose two options. You can choose between "I did not receive a purchased item" or "The item I received does not match the description".
- If the selected transaction has not been authorized by you, you can report this problem to PayPal with the option "I want an unauthorized account access".
- If the amount charged is incorrect, you can select the "I have a problem with my billing" option. Choose between "Incorrect transaction amount" or "Subscriptions".
- With the "Incorrect transaction amount" option, you indicate that an incorrect amount has been deducted from your account. That means you paid too much or too little for the transaction. With the "Subscriptions" option, you indicate that money has still been withdrawn for a subscription that has already been canceled.
- On the following page you now have to provide further information on the recovery and then confirm each time by clicking on "Next".
- The seller now has 20 days to respond. If you cannot find a solution with him, you can apply for buyer protection within 20 days.
