PayPal exchange rate: Deactivate automatic currency conversion
The option to disable automatic currency conversion for a cheaper exchange rate is well hidden with PayPal. We'll show you where to find them.
Disable automatic currency conversion for your PayPal payment source
PayPal's exchange rate is often more expensive for you than that of your bank. Proceed as follows so that PayPal does not automatically convert invoices on its terms, but debits your credit card in the original currency:
- First log in to your PayPal account.
- Click on the gear icon at the top right of the "Logout" button.
- Scroll down to the "Payments" section and click "PayPal Payments by Merchant Debit".
- Above your most recent merchant debits, you will see the "Set available sources of payment" link. Click on it and select your preferred payment source on the next page, for example a credit card. Clicking on "Conversion Options" will take you to the next page.
- Place your selection at "Issue the invoice in the currency specified on the seller's invoice." and confirm with "Send". In the future, the invoice will be issued to this source of payment in the currency that the seller specifies on his invoice.
