PayPal: Activate two-factor authentication (2FA)
The two-factor authentication (2FA) with PayPal ensures more security when logging in. This practical tip shows you how to activate it.
PayPal: Set up two-factor authentication (2FA)
First you have to activate two-factor authentication or "2FA" in your account. To do this, log in to PayPal.
- Now click on the gear icon in the top right corner, then switch to the "Security" area and then select the "Two-step verification" item.
- You can now choose between two-factor authentication via SMS or authentication app. Then click on "Next".
- If you have opted for the "Send code via SMS" option, now enter your mobile number in the form and confirm again with "Next".
- You will now receive an authentication code to the specified mobile number. Enter this in the corresponding field and click on the button. Two-factor authentication is now active.
- With the "Use authentication app" option, an authentication app such as Google Authenticator must be installed on your smartphone.
- Depending on the app used, the exact procedure is a little different. Basically, a QR code is displayed on the PayPal page, which you have to scan with the authentication app on your smartphone camera. You will then see a six-digit code on your smartphone display that you enter in PayPal.
PayPal: Log in with two-factor authentication
- When authenticating via SMS, you will receive an SMS code after entering your user name and password. Enter this to complete the registration in your PayPal account.
- Authentication via the app is similar: When you log in, a six-digit security code is sent to the authentication app, which you must enter in PayPal.
By the way, there is also two-factor authentication for your Google account. In another practical tip, we will show you how to set it up.
