If your PC no longer recognizes your iPad, you do not need to have it repaired immediately, because there is not necessarily a defect. We'll show you a few tricks so that you can maybe reconnect your iPad to your PC.
1. Restart iPad or PC
It sounds simple, but usually works: A restart helps in many situations. Restart both iPad and PC. If neither helps, you can try the next tips.
2. Check the USB cable for a defect
There may be a problem with the USB cable. To rule this out, you can test another USB cable, if available. If the fault is not with the cable, you can continue with the next step.
3. Connect the iPad to another USB port
If the USB cable is not the cause of the problem, there may be a defect in the USB port. Connect your iPad to another USB port on your PC. Go to the next step if this doesn't solve the problem.
4. Update or reinstall iTunes to the latest version
An outdated version of iTunes may be causing the problem. Click the question mark icon in the menu bar and select "Check for updates" to check if a newer version of iTunes is available. If so, update iTunes. Sometimes it can also help to simply reinstall iTunes.
5. Is there a conflict with other programs?
Third-party programs such as anti-virus software can also cause problems. You may need to update your software, adjust software settings, or temporarily disable the software. Software troubleshooting is performed on Windows using the "msconfig" system configuration program:
- msconfing under Windows XP
- msconfig under Windows Vista or Windows 7
The last resort: get the iPad repaired
If the tricks described do not work, there is probably a defect on your iPad. It is best to speak to your dealer to clarify further steps for repair. Many defects are usually repaired free of charge within the warranty period; outside the warranty period or in the event of defects caused by improper use of the device, the manufacturer will give you a cost estimate for the repair.
