Connect the PC case fan - how it works
You can connect your PC case fan to the PC in two ways. This practical tip shows you which options you have and how you should proceed.
Connect the case fan from the PC - so it'll work
- If the fan has a small plug with three pins, you can plug this directly into the mainboard under "CHA_FAN1" or similar.
- Then you can control and monitor the fan and cooling using the free tool SpeedFan.
- If you have a wider connector (Molex connector), you must connect the fan directly to the power supply.
- Unfortunately, this means that you cannot control the fan via a program.
- The wide connector only supplies the fan with power. Unlike the small connector, no additional data can be transmitted here.
