Accelerate PC with USB stick: Here's how
In Windows 7 you can accelerate your PC using a USB stick. We show you how this works in this practical tip.
Expand the working memory with a USB stick
"ReadyBoost" is the name of the function that works from Windows 7. This allows you to expand your working memory with standard USB sticks and thus increase the performance of your PC. Windows stores smaller data blocks on the USB stick. Because access time to flash memory is faster than access time to a hard drive, your entire system will be faster. How to expand your working memory with a USB stick:
- Connect the USB stick to your PC and select "Accelerate system" in the autostart menu. Important: This function is only displayed if your USB stick reaches at least 3 MB / s in read mode and at least 5 MB / s in write mode!
- In the next window click on the entry "Use this device". Use the slider to select the storage space that you want to use for the expansion to your USB stick.
- Finally click on "Apply".
- You can also use several USB sticks for "ReadyBoost". To do this, carry out steps 1-3 for each USB stick individually.
