If your PC starts but does not show a picture, several reasons can be responsible. In this practical tip, we will tell you what you can do to get a picture again.
PC starts but shows no picture - what to do?
Fortunately, in most cases these are just small problems that can be solved quickly. So first try the following simple steps:
- Check that you have properly connected the monitor to the computer and that all connections are properly seated.
- You should also make sure that the monitor is correctly connected to the power supply and that the connector is properly seated here.
- Make sure you have turned on the monitor too. When the device is switched on, a small lamp usually lights up on the screen.
- If the monitor does not turn on, the cable may be defective. If you can replace it, you should replace it with a new cable.
- If the cable is permanently installed, contact a specialist so that the cable can be replaced.
- If the monitor can be switched on but remains black, you should make sure that you have selected the correct source. You can switch between the different inputs using the buttons on the screen.
Monitor remains black: reset BIOS
In some cases, a bug in the BIOS can cause the screen to remain black. A quick BIOS reset can help.
- To do this, disconnect the PC from the power and touch a piece of bare metal, for example on the heater. This prevents electric shocks and damage to the PC.
- Depending on the model, you can either remove the battery or use a so-called jumper on the mainboard. This will reset the BIOS and, at best, clear the error.
- If you have never carried out such a process before, you should read through this detailed instruction on the topic beforehand.
No picture on the screen: Check graphics card
The graphics card can also be the cause. In the best case, there is only a minor problem and no total loss.
- Next, you should rule out the graphics card as a source of error. Try to connect the screen to another connector on the graphics card.
- If that doesn't work, remove the graphics card and reinstall it. If that doesn't work either, remove the graphics card and connect the monitor directly to the connector on the mainboard. CPUs from Intel in particular have an onboard graphics card, with CPUs from AMD you are usually dependent on the additional graphics card.
- If the problem is not with the graphics card, the CPU may be damaged. However, there is usually a BIOS tone. The mainboard itself can also be defective.
