PC doesn't start - you can do that
If your PC no longer starts, there can be a variety of reasons for this. Both software and hardware problems can be considered. We'll show you how to fix the most common mistakes.
PC does not start: How to solve the problem
Note: We recommend that you first make a backup of the data on your hard drive. Boot CDs are suitable for this.
- If your PC no longer starts, you should first try Windows' own repair. To do this, insert or connect the installation medium. Select "Perform system repair" from the selection options.
- You may have caught a virus. It is advisable to reinstall the system for security reasons so that you do not keep any remnants of the malware on your computer. Before that, you can try out an emergency CD, such as the Bitdefender Rescue CD.
- Incompatible software can also lead to boot problems. Sometimes you can get the PC to run at least temporarily after a few tries. Uninstall programs that you have recently saved on your system and then try to boot your computer again.

Defective hardware can also be responsible for your computer not starting up. Follow the tips below.
- Turn off your PC and the power adapter on the back of the computer. Disconnect the PC from the power and reconnect it after about a minute. Then try to initiate the boot process again.
- If your PC beeps when booting and does not start up properly, you can use the tones to determine the defect in some cases. You can find detailed information in our separate article.
- Individual components of your computer that no longer function can also cause the boot problems. PC experts can unscrew their computers and see if they can identify the problem themselves.
- Alternatively, you can call a computer help hotline or take your computer to a specialist.
