PC and gaming monitor: That's how much Hertz you need
When buying a new gaming monitor, the question arises as to what Hertz number (Hz) you need for a good gaming experience. We give you useful advice and show what you should consider.
Hertz of the gaming monitor - 60 Hz or 144 Hz?
- Gaming monitors basically differ in their Hertz number. This is the rate at which images can be displayed on the screen.
- In practice, the Hertz values correspond to the frames-per-second (FPS). Accordingly, a 60 Hz monitor can display up to 60 FPS, whereas more FPS are possible at higher Hertz values.
- Before you decide, you should measure your FPS values in your games, for example in Steam.
- If you constantly have more than 120/144 FPS, buying a higher-quality monitor can be worthwhile for you, since you can play the game more smoothly.
- Conversely, this means that only 60 FPS are displayed on a 60 Hz monitor - even if your PC is far more powerful.
- However, a 60 Hz monitor is perfectly adequate for the average consumer. However, if you are in the pro gaming / esports sector, a high quality monitor is a very advantageous option.
