PC too slow? With these simple tricks you can make it faster
If your PC is too slow, you don't have to go to the piggy bank and buy a new one. With 7 tricks you make your computer faster - and we will tell you.
Digital clutter: the Messi PC
If your apartment is not cleared up, you will see it immediately - and will probably start cleaning up straight away. Unfortunately, digital clutter does not catch the eye so quickly. Therefore, more and more unnecessary things accumulate over time, similar to a Messi apartment. Getting through is difficult and is really slow. In this case, it is important to work in a targeted manner and then regularly check that everything is in order. Then it also works with speed - because a tidy PC that is not held back by data garbage is often faster.
1. Clean up your desktop
Clutter is most noticeable on the desktop. The good thing about it: The desktop is fairly easy and quick to clean up. If your digital desk overflows, it will take you a long time to find something. In addition, a full desktop also slows down the PC, especially at startup. Once you have done that, you should devote yourself to the documents and the download folder.
- Take five minutes every now and then to put everything you no longer need in the trash.
- What is left then should be sorted. Create folders in which you can sort matching items. A tidy desktop not only makes your PC faster, it also looks a lot friendlier.
- Once you have made the first step, you should take care of your document area and the download order in one go. Use the same principle as for the desktop: What is no longer needed. ends up in the wastebasket, the rest is sorted into meaningful folders.
- Don't forget to empty your trash after this cleanup.
2. Delete unnecessary programs
Many programs are available for download free of charge. This seduces and over time the programs collect, even though they are never actually used. The 20:80 rule usually applies: in 80 percent of our time on the PC, we only use 20 percent of the programs.
- If you haven't used a program at all in the last year, you obviously don't need it. So you can confidently delete it.
- Many products such as cameras etc. now come with a certain software, for example an image processing program. However, if you use your well-known program, you should not leave the unused software installed just because it was with the camera.
3. Sort out your hardware
The digital world is fast moving, something new is constantly coming onto the market. Over time, a lot of cell phones, printers and other hardware accumulate. Most of the time these things were connected to the PC at some point and left their mark there.
- Dispose of all hardware that you no longer need, for example because you now have a newer model.
- If you have emptied the drawers, remove all associated software and whatever else has been installed on the PC from the hardware.
4. Lots of photos
Ever since the smartphone entered our lives, every moment, no matter how unimportant, has been digitally captured. But do you really need every selfie and every sunset?
- Photos in particular take up a lot of space on the PC and slow it down. So don't just sort out your snapshots once a year, otherwise it will be a mammoth task. It is better to devote yourself to the photo folder once a month and delete duplicate or unsuccessful recordings.
- If there are still a lot of photos left that you do not want to part with, move them out: Put the photos in the cloud, so you always have access, but your PC is empty and therefore faster. Your recordings are also in good hands on a stick or memory card.
5. Delete emails
This point doesn't speed up your PC's performance, but it saves you time
- Delete emails you don't need immediately. This keeps the inbox of your email account clear.
- Choose a sensible sorting system with which you can quickly and easily put your mailbox in order.
- Tip: With the search function in your account, you can find mails quickly and easily.
6. When is the professional in demand?
The last point may sound old-fashioned, but is still relevant today: If your PC becomes ever slower and tidying up doesn't help, let the professional do it.
