PDF file is not accessible - what now?
PDFs should always be barrier-free. If the file is not, it is often a major hurdle for visually impaired people.
Accessibility for PDF files - what does that mean?
For accessible PDF documents, you have to consider certain things so that the file is suitable for the disabled:
- You must structure the document consistently and clearly. It is important that you tag the sections of the text. Headings and paragraphs should be accessible via meaningful links.
- Alternative texts that summarize the content of the image must be available for all graphics.
- You should choose the selected security settings and the font so that the text can be read out perfectly.
- That is why it is all the more important that official PDFs are designed to be barrier-free right from the start. In the meantime, all common programs such as LibreOffice or Word offer a function with which you can export texts tagged and suitable for the disabled.
- If necessary, you can of course copy the content of a PDF document and add bookmarks and alternative texts yourself.
On the next page we will introduce you to the best tools that you can use to read PDF files.
