Edit PDF files on Mac
Depending on how you want to edit a PDF file on Mac, you can use different programs. The pre-installed "Preview" is sufficient for simple markings and annotations and for swapping pages, for example. If you want to change the text of a PDF, you have to use harder guns. We'll show you how it's done.
Edit PDFs with Mac preview
With "Preview", OS X includes a tool with which you can easily edit PDF files:
- If you open the PDF file with a double click, it will automatically appear in "Preview".
- Click on "View" in the top menu bar and select "Show tool list".
- You will now see various symbols above your PDF document (see picture). You can use the different tools to place markers or arrows in your document. You can write comments using the speech bubble and the bar function makes individual text passages unrecognizable.
Insert pages from another PDF file
If you want to insert individual pages of another document into a PDF file, proceed as follows:
- Open both documents in "Preview". Click "View"> "Sidebar" to show the latter.
- Drag the page that is inserted from the sidebar of one document into the other and release it at the desired position. should be in the sidebar of the PDF document.
- If you want to move several pages at once, you can mark them and drag them together into the other document.
- Save the result with the key combination "cmd" + "S".
Tip: If you want to integrate a complete PDF file into another, just leave it closed and drag the document, for example, from your desk directly into the sidebar of the PDF.
Swap pages in PDF files on Mac
Exchanging pages within a PDF is also no problem with "Preview": simply drag them to the desired position in the sidebar. When you are finished, save the result.
Delete individual pages from a PDF document
To delete a page from a PDF, select it in the sidebar. You can also select several pages at once. Remove them with the backspace key (delete key). Alternatively, drag the pages to the trash or click on "Edit"> "Delete" in the menu bar.
In order to be able to edit the content of a PDF document - for example text or images - you need professional, mostly paid software such as "Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro".
