Read PDFs on Kindle - Here's how
Reading PDF documents on Kindle is not easy because the font size cannot be adjusted and PDFs are not supported on Kindle from the start. You can find out how to get your PDF formatted in a Kindle compatible version (AWZ or MOBI) here.
I. Convert the PDF
In order for your e-book reader to cope with the PDF format, you must first convert it into a native Kindle format. You have two different options:
a) convert pdf via email
When you send the PDF to your Kindle email address, the device converts the file itself with a little trick.
- Send an email to your Kindle address. You can find the address, for example, in your Amazon account under "My Kindle".
- The trick is: Enter the term "convert" in the subject line of the email. The Kindle then automatically converts the file into a format that is common to it.
b) Kindle compatible format with Caliber
An alternative to converting via email is a small but helpful tool called Caliber. Caliber is a converter, reader and file manager for eBooks in one. You can download the tool directly from CHIP.de.
II. Transfer the file to Kindle
After you have successfully converted your PDF into a Kindle-readable and processable file, all you have to do is transfer your PDF to Kindle. You have the following options:
- When you buy a Kindles, you get your own Kindle email address. Typically, this is: The first method is to simply email the PDF to your Kindle address. But make sure that this is also logged on. You can connect this step with the "convert" function from above.
- The second method is USB transfer. If you are currently charging your Kindle and have connected it to your computer via USB, you can also copy the converted PDF directly over it.
- The third method is transfer using the "Send to Kindle" tool. This feature is still relatively new and was developed by Amazon in order to make the data transfer to the Kindle, which was previously annoying, easier. You can download "Send to Kindle" here.
Tip: If you already have PDF on Kindle and don't want to format it, read the documents in landscape format, which is much more convenient.
