PES 2017 vs. Fifa 17: football games in comparison
On September 27, 2016, EA Sports will publish its football simulation FIFA 17. You can find out how this compares to the competitor PES 2017 in this practical tip.
PES 2017 vs. Fifa 17: the licenses
Without even playing a match, one thing immediately stands out: FIFA 17 has significantly more clubs to choose from.
- There are a total of 36 leagues and 650 teams, including the top leagues from Germany, Spain, England, France and Italy. There are also many 2nd leagues. The Japanese J-League has also been officially licensed since this year.
- Pro Evolution Soccer 2017 offers a large selection of clubs that have qualified for the Champions League and the Europa League. However, well-known teams such as FC Bayern, which has an exclusive contract with EA Sports, are also missing. From the Bundesliga there are now only Leverkusen, Dortmund and Schalke.
Pes 2017 vs. Fifa 17: the tactics
One of the arguments in favor of buying PES 2017 is the diverse setting options in terms of individual tactics.
- So you can adjust the behavior of your players with own and opposing ball possession, but also counterpressing or offensive full-backs. In addition, there are various adjustment options available during the game.
- With Fifa 17, on the other hand, there is "only" the same tactics menu as last year, which allows some customizations, but is limited to preset (quick) tactics and customizable formations.
Pes 2017 vs. Fifa 17: online modes
Both games can convince with their online modes.
- Fifa's "Ultimate Team" has been one of the absolute selling points for football simulation for years. When creating your own team, EA Sports also accommodates the licenses, because it is of course much more fun to build a successful team when the choice of players is greater. The transfer market is also an advantage of the Ultimate Team. In addition to this mode, Fifa 17 also has the "co-op season" or the "Virtual Bundesliga".
- With "My Club", PES has already published a serious competitor to the Ultimate Team last year, who can convince primarily with his pack animations, the display of the probability that there is a player of a certain class in the respective pack, or the well-thought-out points system, Otherwise, the online modes are limited in Pes 2017.
Pes 2017 vs. Fifa 17: feeling of play
Year after year, both games try to get closer to real football. Which game feels better when playing?
- PES 2017 succeeds in a very realistic representation of the game, the ball jumps very realistic over the field, it looks as if something unexpected could actually happen at any time. The ball's flight curves are also very reminiscent of real football.
- Fifa 17, on the other hand, looks like the predecessor, slightly stiff. The players look much more realistic than with PES, but the animations seem to repeat themselves again and again at some point, the possibility of the unexpected, the surprising is missing something. This means, for example, deflected shots or goalkeepers who cannot hold a ball properly.
Pes 2017 vs. Fifa 17: the presentation
Both games differ significantly in the overall presentation in the game environment, for example when the players emerge.
- At Fifa, for example, there will be pyrotechnics in the stadium for the first time this year, the match will be presented like on TV. The necessary mood is there, even if many of the catch songs don't really look authentic. The trainer models in FIFA 17, through which José Mourinho or Jürgen Klopp are represented in the game, also contribute to the mood. Overall, the games are presented in FIFA 17.
- This cannot necessarily be said at PES 2017. The mood is very special, in principle there are no nice side effects. The running-in or the fade-ins are not really solved well either. After all, there are emotions now and then during the game, for example when making referee decisions.
Pes 2017 vs. Fifa 17: the commentators
Both games seem to want to outbid themselves in the inferior quality of their commentators and their sayings.
- In FIFA 17, commentators are still one of the main criticisms. At the beginning, with some new sayings, they hope for an improvement compared to the previous year, but this hope will be destroyed after the fourth game at the latest, because then the sayings will only be repeated, so that you or the bad comments are issued again. Wolf-Christoph Fuß and Manfred Buschmann are doing well overall, after all, most of the comments at least fit the game.
- Not even that is the case with PES 2017. This was already a problem in the predecessor, but it has hardly improved noticeably, so that commentators Marco Hagemann and Hansi Küpper still don't really convince with their flat sayings.
Pes 2017 vs. Fifa 17: The AI
Both games take different approaches with their AI.
- At Fifa, the AI is called "Active Intelligence". The team colleagues should act more intelligently, look for free space and thus enable combination play. However, the fun of the game suffers on a level of difficulty that is too low, because the opposing defenders are very inept.
- This is not necessarily the problem with PES '"Adaptive AI", because the defensive lines cover the rooms very well. PES advertises that the AI adapts to the game style, so that the games become more interesting and demanding. At the same time, in principle every attack must look different from the previous one, otherwise the goal will be lost.
