Branding the pan: you have to pay attention to that
Certain pans need to be baked in the kitchen before using them for the first time. In this article we show you which pans are necessary and how you can best do it.
Branding the pan - that's what matters
Each iron pan needs special treatment before first use. It doesn't matter whether the pan is made of wrought or cast iron.
- Before you actually start to bake the pan, you must first remove the corrosion protection with which pans made of such material are delivered.
- You can do this either with a thorough hand wash with plenty of warm water and detergent. Alternatively, put the iron pan in the dishwasher.
- With the latter method, rust may have formed on the pan. Then wipe it off with a coarse sponge with firm rubbing.
- You need a heat-resistant oil and a few potato slices to bake the pan. Tip: Use coconut fat to bake the pan. It melts when you heat the pan.
- Heat the oil - the inside of the pan should be well covered with it - and fry thin, salted potato slices in it. However, these are not intended for consumption. They should roast until they are badly burned, i.e. black.
- If so, discard the potatoes. Let the pan cool down a bit, but do not let it cool down. Then rinse the pan thoroughly with warm water. Finally, put some oil on a kitchen towel. Use this to rub the inside of the pan well.
- Tip: A lot of smoke is produced when the pan is baked on. So switch your cooker hood to the highest level if possible. In addition, opening your kitchen windows does no harm, since the smell is pungent and likes to "stick".
