Photoshop: create motion blur
In this practical tip, we explain how to create motion blur in Photoshop.
Create motion blur in Photoshop
If you want to create dynamics in images that appear more static, the effects presented here are suitable. Imagine, for example, a car that is static in the photo, but is supposed to look more dynamic and moving. Other motifs include a falling cyclist or a running child. Follow this guide to add such effects to your photos in a few clicks.
- Open the image you want to edit in Photoshop.
- In newer versions of Photoshop, click on "Filters" -> "Convert for Smart Filters". Confirm with "OK".
- Then select "Blur filter" via "Filter". The filters available for motion blur are the "radial blur" and "motion blur".
- You can use both filters on their own or combine the filters.
- Click "Radial Blur". Depending on the photo and the desired effect, other settings can lead to a better result. Select "Radiant" as the method and leave the strength at 10 for now. You can select "Very good" as the quality. Move the center point in the direction of movement.
- You can also use the Motion Sharpness filter. Bring the filter in the right direction using the angle information. With a horizontal movement from left to right, the angle 0 ° is suitable. You set the strength of the effect using the pixel spacing.
