To open Photoshop files (.psd) with Paint.Net you need a small plugin. We'll show you where to find the plugin and how to install it.
Paint.NET Photoshop plugin
Paint.NET cannot open .psd files by itself. You can add the function later using a plugin.
- Download the plugin as a ZIP archive. link
- Open the archive and copy the "PhotoShop.dll" file to the "C: \ Program Files \ Paint.NET \ FileTypes" folder. This path only applies if you have installed Paint.NET in the standard path.
- Restart Paint.NET. You should then be able to open Photoshop files.
Adobe Photoshop undoubtedly offers many more functions than the free Paint.NET. When opening the files, problems and loss of information can occur. If your Photoshop file cannot be opened with Paint.NET, download the demo version of Adobe Photoshop and save the file in another format.
