In this practical tip, we explain how Photoshop can reduce the file size of an image.
Shrink and save Photoshop images for the web
You can reduce the file size of your images by saving your images in a web-compatible way in Photoshop CS6. Large images are also rather unfavorable on the Internet, since you can prevent websites from loading quickly.
- First, open the image you want to edit in Photoshop.
- Click File on the Photoshop menu bar.
- Select "Save for web".
- In the opened window you can see the new image size directly under the preview. In the right display you can, for example, reduce the number of colors even further. This is how you change the quality of the image, but the file size keeps falling.
- The preview shows you directly what the picture looks like after editing. Often no changes can be seen with the naked eye, but the file size is often reduced to one tenth of the original.
- Finally click on "Save" to save the new image.
Reduce file size using image size
Of course, you can also simply reduce the image size and resolution of the photo. This also significantly reduces the file size of the photo.
- To do this, click on "Image" in the menu bar.
- Select the "Image size" entry in the open menu.
- Reduce the width, height and resolution of the image here and save the settings with "OK".
You can then further reduce the size of the images in Photoshop by cutting out the relevant motifs from the image.
