Photoshop: Fix (partially) layers - how it works
In this practical tip we will show you how to fix layers in Photoshop, what to fix in parts and how it works.
Freeze layers in Photoshop
In Photoshop, you protect layers by fixing them. This means that they cannot be accidentally changed or deleted. This locks the layer and cannot be edited until protection is removed.
- Open your document in Photoshop. Select the level you want to lock.
- In the layer settings above the listed layers you will find the options for fixing.
- Select the lock to lock an entire level. You can also select multiple levels and lock them at the same time.
- Clicking the lock again unlocks the level so that it can be edited again.
Photoshop: Partially fix layers
Photoshop not only has the option of locking the entire layer, but also only partially fixing it. You can also select several options for fixing. There are 3 possible options:
- The first option (from the left) only protects transparent pixels. This means that you can only edit opaque areas of the layer.
- With the brush, the second option, you can "fix image pixels". This protects all image pixels from painting tools and can no longer be edited with them.
- The move cross, the third option from the left, prevents pixels from moving. You can still edit them further.
If your picture contains many layers, you can combine or copy them.
