Photoshop: Creating a face swap effect - a tutorial
In this tutorial we will explain how you can create a face swap effect in Photoshop.
Face swap in Photoshop: how it works
- Open the photos with the two faces in Photoshop that you want to swap with each other. The easiest way to work is to open both pictures side by side in one window.
- Rotate the face you want to insert in the other image in the same direction as the original image. You will get the best results if both faces are as straight as possible.
- Set the opacity of the layer of the drawn image to 50 percent and place the face as precisely as possible over that of the original image.
- Set the opacity back to 100 percent and add a layer mask.
- Use a black brush to remove any areas around the face that are not to be used for the face swap.
- Click "Create Adjustment or Fill Layer" and then click "Color Balance". Also press the left button in the lower bar of the layer settings for color balance, so that you only edit the layer with the new face.
- Now adjust the color so that the color of the new face is roughly the same as the original.
- Under "Create Adjustment or Fill Layer", click on "Dynamics" and decrease the saturation slightly. Play around with the values a little until you are satisfied.
- Slide Layer onto the original image so that it is as close as possible to the face of the original. Finally, use the brush tool to remove the remaining areas around the face.
- You can now save your work as a JPG file or in another format on your hard drive.
