Photoshop: Swap Background
Would you like some of your pictures to have a new background? With Photoshop, you can easily replace the background. Here's how ...
Swap background in Photoshop - in 10 steps
- Open the image in Photoshop.
- In the Layers window, click twice on the only layer there. The lock symbol next to the level now disappears. Now give the layer a name, eg "Foreground". Then click OK".
- Use the selection tool ("magic wand" or "quick selection tool" depending on the Phooshop version) to mark / outline the object.
- Use the [Del] key to remove the background. The object is now free.
- Create a new layer via "Layer"> "New"> "Layer". It's best to call this "background".
- Move the background layer in the Layers window under the "Foreground" layer.
- Now open the image with the new background in Photoshop.
- Go to "Selection"> "Select All" and "Edit"> "Copy". Then minimize this file.
- Now click on the background in the layer window again and select "Edit"> "Paste".
- The background may now be too big or too small. Reduce or enlarge the inserted image with [Ctrl] + [T] and the then appearing size input errors at the top left.
It works a little easier with Gimp> Read on the next page how to change the background with Gimp.
