Photoshop: change background color - Here's how
If you want to change the background color of your Photoshop document, there are several options. We will present them to you and explain in detail how you use them.
Photoshop: Change background color at the beginning of the project
- Open a new document by selecting "File"> "New" or simply using the keyboard shortcut [Ctrl] + [N].
- A dialog opens. Here you can set the name, size and resolution of the document. But also the background color.
- Set the desired color under "Background content". You can choose between white or transparency. Alternatively, select the desired color using the small square to the right.
- You can then confirm the settings with "OK" so that your new document opens. Your selected background color is now set.
Photoshop: Change background color afterwards
If you have already filled your document and still want to change the background color, you can easily do this by using your own layer.
- Make sure you have the correct document open. Then click on the small circle at the lower edge of the layer window. You can use this to create new setting levels.
- Select the top item "Color area" here.
- You will now be asked which color you would like to create. Enter your desired background color here and confirm with OK.
- To make this color layer the background, all you have to do is move the layer to the bottom of the Layers window.
If you don't get the locked background layer, we will show you in the next practical tip how to make the background layer transparent.
