Install and use Photoshop plugins: It's easy and safe
Installing plugins for Photoshop is cumbersome and often the downloaded files are contaminated with viruses. It is easier and safer with an installer that provides Photoshop plugins and effectively integrates them into Photoshop. We'll show you step by step how it works.
Install Photoshop plugins: how it works with the installer
Attention: Save your open projects before installing. Photoshop and the Creative Cloud must be completely closed.
- Download the Photoshop and GIMP Extensions Installer tool. Make sure that a current Java version is preinstalled on your computer.
- First select a language and then your Photoshop version (PS CC or PS CS6) from the list at the top right.
- Now filter the Photoshop plugins from the selection of Photoshop extensions by using the filter (in the middle right). Here you can choose one or more plugins from the list to install them.
- Click "Install Plugins" and restart Adobe Photoshop. The plugins are now installed.
Use Photoshop plugins correctly: The "how" is crucial
After installation, getting started with the new plugins is not easy. The functions of the plugins are hidden behind the rather confusing surface of Photoshop. There is no uniform "recipe" for using plugins, but you can quickly find your way around with our tips.
- If you have reinstalled a plugin, restart Adobe Photoshop and search all drop-down menus for an entry with the name of the plugin.
- If you do not know any further, the documentation of the plugin can help. The manufacturer's website, which can be found quickly via Google, usually provides enough information. Most of these are written in English, but contain a lot of information about usage and implementation.
- Plugins often offer a new application window with sliders, inputs, and switches that are best for you to try and play around with until you understand the functions and the result.
- Sometimes the plugins are also embedded directly in the surface, for example for panels or additional buttons. Also search everything in the area of the controls on the right and left in the standard Photoshop interface.
- Occasionally there are situations in which it is worthwhile to use filters and plugins against their actual purpose. For example, use a simple plug-in to simulate part of a surface reflection.
