Add blurring in Photoshop - a guide
A combination of a long focal length and a large aperture (small f-number) is suitable to emphasize the main subject from the background. In this way, the focus level is only in a small area. The focused subject is razor-sharp and the background is blurred. What can easily be done with a digital SLR and an expensive zoom lens during the recording can also be relatively easily reproduced on a PC with Photoshop or Photoshop Elements:
- To do this, create a layer copy and mask the motif in the foreground. Then use "Filters"> "Blur Filters"> "Soften Depth of Field" to soften the background.
- To intensify the effect, in the next step sharpen the foreground on the masked layer via "Filter"> "Sharpening filter"> "Unsharp mask".
- To focus your attention even more on the subject, you can convert the background to black and white or choose Image> Adjust> Decrease Saturation.
