Ping Test: Ping command to test the network
The ping is a program that you can use to test whether a particular computer is available on a network. For this, data packets are sent to the target computer and received again. The time that passes during this is also measured and then indicates the ping.
How to test the ping of your network
The ping is one of the so-called CMD commands and is requested via the command line. Search for "cmd" on your computer and open the command prompt.
- If you want to check whether your PC can communicate with other computers at all, enter the "ping localhost" command. If the data packets are received and the loss is given as 0%, everything is OK.
- If you want to determine the ping with a third-party network such as our website "www.chip.de", enter the following in the command line: "ping www.chip.de". You will then see the time required to send and receive the data packets.
Detect ping on Android devices
You can also test the ping using your Android smartphone or tablet. The free app "Speedtest.net" is suitable for this. In addition to the ping, this also measures the download and upload rate and stores all results in an overview.
