Start ping test under MacOS - Here's how
A ping test can be useful in many situations. There are several ways to start one under MacOS. We'll show you.
1st possibility: Ping test with the network diagnostic program from MacOS
- MacOS comes with a special "network tool". With this you can also perform a ping test.
- To do this, simply open the "Network diagnostics program" application. You can find this, for example, using the Spotlight search. Then switch to the "Ping" tab.
- In addition to the network address of the target server, you can also determine a limited number of pings (see picture). If you just want to test your internet, it is recommended to ping a reliable server like "google.de" or "wikipedia.org" with 10 pings.
2nd possibility: Ping test via the terminal
- You can also start the ping test from the terminal. This can be more convenient for some people. But the result is the same.
- To do this, simply open the terminal. This can also be found again using the Spotlight search.
- In this you start the ping test using the "ping" command. You can also influence the ping test with a few variables. The most important are the network address and the variable "-c X". This determines the number of packages - simply replace the "X" with any number.
- For example, if you want to send 10 packages to the server "praxistipps.chip.de", enter the command "ping -c 10 praxistipps.chip.de".
