If you are currently playing an online game, a high ping is particularly annoying. This practical tip explains how to improve your ping.
Improve ping: the best tips
An obvious source of problems are other programs that use your bandwidth. You should switch off these programs.
- In Windows Task Manager you can see which programs use the most bandwidth. Turn this off to get better latency.
- Platforms such as Steam or Origin, in particular, automatically update your games at regular intervals if this is set. Large data packets are downloaded for this, which can lead to a high ping.
- Electronic devices or WiFi networks can interfere with your wireless connection and thus increase the ping. Use a LAN cable so that you are not affected by such interference.

Another way to improve your ping is to make a setting in the registry.
- Press the key combination [Windows] + [R] and enter in "regedit" to open the registry.
- Navigate here to the path "Computer \ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ Tcpip \ Parameters \ Interfaces".
- There are several subfolders in this folder, which must now be examined individually. Find the folder that contains the most files.
- Once you have located the folder, right-click on it to open the context menu. Select "New -> DWORD value (32-bit)" or "QWORD value (64-bit)".
- Name this value "TcpAckFrequency" and click on it. In the window that opens, change the value from 0 to 1 and confirm the change with "OK".
- After the next restart, the ping should be significantly improved.
