Play Music does not show album art - this solves the problem
Due to a bug, the Android app "Play Music" no longer shows album art. But for a few weeks now you have been able to solve the problem very easily. In this practical tip, we will show you exactly how this works.
Update Play Music: How to get the album art back
The problem with the album covers only shows up in the smartphone app. With the update on September 30, 2013, Google fixed the bug. If you have not yet installed the update, you should follow these steps:
- First open the Play Store on your smartphone or tablet and press the menu key. Select the entry [My Apps].
- If an update for the music app is available, it will be displayed here. In this case, click on the [Refresh] button and confirm the pop-up for the app permissions with [Next]. After installation, Play Music reloads all album art.
Add missing album art with Google Music
If an album still does not show a cover, you have to add it manually. Play Music automatically only provides the right cover for MP3 files. With a few clicks you can also add a cover to other songs:
- Open the Play Music website and log in with your Google account.
- Hover over the album with the missing cover. Click on the three horizontal bars in the upper right corner and select the entry [Edit album details].
- Here you can upload your own album art. Click on the [Change] entry in the gray square and select the image file on your computer.
- In some cases, Play Music recognizes the album by itself and offers you the right cover (see screenshot). In this case, all you have to do is click on the suggestion to accept the artwork.
- Repeat steps 2 through 4 for each album where the cover is missing.
If you import your music from another program, Play Music automatically takes over the covers. In this practical tip, we explain how you can synchronize your iTunes music.
