Play Station Vita vs. PS Vita Slim: The differences
The Play Station Vita Slim, available since 2014, has some differences from the older version. We'll show you how to recognize the new console.
Differences between Play Station Vita and PS Vita Slim
When buying, you should first consider which of the two consoles you want to buy and which features you should use to decide:
- Internal memory: The new PS Vita Slim has an internal 1 GB memory compared to the old console. This allows you to use it without a memory card, even if the internal memory is already full with 1 or 2 games. If you also insert a memory card, the internal memory is locked.
- External features: With the new PS Vita Slim, the Sony lettering is arranged above the display and the speaker holes are arranged round. In addition, the console is about 20 percent smaller and lighter. In the earlier version, the speakers are rectangular and the Sony lettering to the left of the display.
- Charging connection: While the old PS Vita used a Sony connection, you can charge the new PS Vita Slim with a normal micro USB cable. This means that replacement cables are very cheap and the device can also be charged with most mobile phone charging cables.
- Display: In the new slim version of the PS Vita, Sony uses an LCD display. Unfortunately, this is worse in terms of color rendering and viewing angles. Except in a direct comparison, we could not find any major difference in the test.
- Battery life: With the new display, the battery of the PS Vita Slim should now last 6 to 7 hours instead of the previous 5 to 6 hours.
