PlayStation 4: Connect speakers to the PS4
The PS4 has taken gaming to a new level. To keep the sound going, connect speakers to the PlayStation. However, this only works indirectly, because the high-end game console only has digital audio outputs.
How to connect speakers to your PS4
First of all: Since the Sony Playstation 4 is connected to your TV via an HDMI connection, the loudspeaker system for the home cinema can of course also be connected directly to your TV set. A direct speaker connection is actually only necessary if you want to use a computer monitor for the picture.
- The PS4 can be connected directly to speakers using an optical digital cable (TOSLINK cable). This is not included in the scope of delivery and, depending on the length, costs around 10 euros.
- Plug this cable into the optical audio output of your PlayStation 4 on the back, which is next to the HDMI connection.
- Connect the other end to the digital audio input on your speakers, which looks exactly like the audio output on the PS4 that is already connected.
- If, like most active systems, your speakers do not have a digital audio connection, you still need a Toslink mini plug adapter for the jack connection. These cost between 4 and 8 euros.
- Note: Many audio systems without digital audio input cannot output the fiber optic connection via the jack connection. The Toslink mini plug adapter does not necessarily lead to success.
How to change the sound settings of your Playstation 4
- First select the "Sound and screen" option in the menu of your PS4.
- Then click on the "Audio Output Settings".
- There you choose the "Primary output port" field.
- Finally, select "DIGITAL OUT (OPTICAL)".
- There you will also find additional setting options for fine tuning.
