PlayStation Vita: How to do a firmware update
In order for you to be able to use your PlayStation Vita without restrictions, you should always have the latest firmware update installed. We'll show you all three ways you can update your PlayStation Vita.
Install firmware update via WiFi
The easiest way to update your PlayStation Vita is via a WiFi connection on the device itself. To do this, make sure that the PlayStation Vita is connected to the Internet.
- Then open the settings on the live screen of the PlayStation Vita.
- Select the second option "System Update" and then "Update via Wi-Fi".
- The PlayStation Vita now checks whether a new update is available. If so, just follow the information on the screen.
Install firmware update via PlayStation 3
If you cannot establish an Internet connection with the PlayStation Vita, you can use the network function of the PlayStation 3 for a firmware update. However, please note that your PlayStation 3 must run at least on firmware version 4.00 or higher.
- First, open the settings on the live screen of the PlayStation Vita.
- Select the second option "System Update" and then "Update via a PS3 system".
- Now close all applications on your PlayStation 3 and connect the PlayStation Vita to your PS3 using the appropriate USB cable.
- The PlayStation 3 should be recognized by the PlayStation Vita and automatically check whether a new firmware update is available for download. If so, follow the further instructions on the screen.
Install firmware update via PC
Alternatively, you can install a firmware update directly from the PC. To do this, you must first download the content manager.
- Start the content manager on your PC.
- Then connect your PlayStation Vita to your computer using a USB cable.
- Now open the settings on the live screen of the PlayStation Vita.
- Select the second option "System update" and then "Update via PC".
- If the PC has been recognized, the PlayStation Vita checks whether a new firmware update is available. Then follow the on-screen instructions.
As with any type of firmware update, the battery of the PlayStation Vita should be sufficiently charged or the handheld must be connected to the power supply before performing an update. Some games also include a firmware update that is automatically installed when it starts. If you are still looking for a good console, we compare the PS Vita and the Nintendo 3DS for you.
