In Pokemon Go, the gyms, or arenas, play an important role. With our tips you can conquer an arena that is far above your level.
Pokemon Go: what are gyms?
Gyms are battle arenas where you can measure yourself against others as a trainer. You can also compete against strong Pokemon several times a day and catch rare pocket monsters.
- In some places on the Pokemon Go card there are gyms. These can be filled by the three teams (red, blue or yellow).
- Each trainer can only place one Pokemon per arena in total. To do this, either tap the plus button of an arena already occupied by your team or fight the Pokemon of an opposing team until their Pokemon disappears from the arena. For this you fight with a maximum of 6 Pokemon against all Pokemon in the gym. Note, however, that a team's maximum of six Pokemon can fit in one arena.
- Your efforts in the fights will even be rewarded: you will receive one coin for every hour your Pokemon sits in the arena. As soon as your Pokemon is defeated by another trainer and returns to you, you will receive the corresponding number of coins, up to a maximum of 50 coins per day. You can then use the coins in the shop for incubators, upgrades and other items.
- You can control how long your Pokemon survives in an arena. If you tap one of your arenas on the map, a heart appears above the Pokemon, which represents the motivation of the pocket monsters. If this is filled, your Pokemon is fine. However, if your Pokemon is in the arena for a longer period of time or if it is attacked by other players, the health indicator will decrease. If it is zero and your Pokemon is defeated in battle, it will flee the arena and come back to your team.
- To prevent this, you can feed your Pokemon any berry using the button at the bottom right of the arena. This increases the motivation of all Pokemon in this arena by a few points. If your Pokemon has still been defeated, you will need to spice it up with an animator.
Pokemon GO: Raid battles in gyms
While the arenas used to only be used for fighting, there have been two additional functions since June 2017.
- On the one hand you can turn at the top of the arena like a PokeStop and thus receive items. It works every few minutes at every arena.
- On the other hand, so-called raid bosses appear repeatedly at the individual arenas. You can fight these particularly strong opponents together with friends and then catch the rare Pokemon. We have summarized all the exact information about the raid battles in a special article.
Pokemon Go Gyms: The Best Tips For Arena Fighting
The combat system in arenas is very simple. Still, there are a few things to keep in mind.
- When you are at an arena, you can start a fight using the GO button.
- First, look at all enemy Pokemon in an arena before attacking them. What type do they have? For example, if a fire pokemon is at the front, you should choose a water pokemon at the top of your attack list. So you have the best chance. There is a counter type for each Pokemon type that is particularly strong or weak.
- If your Pokemon are generally very strong, you should put the stronger ones in the front places. In the end, you have to revive and heal fewer pocket monsters.
- To attack, tap the opposing Pokemon with your finger in combat. Each Pokemon has a different attack speed - however, pressing it too quickly is usually not necessary.
- Especially with stronger opponents, you should definitely try to avoid attacks. Just before the opposing attack reaches your Pokemon, swipe right or left. In most cases, special attacks by your opponents will be shown at the bottom of the screen. If you dodge at the right moment, the "Dodge" lettering will appear over your Pokemon and it will take little or no damage.
- Once you have successfully fought, the motivation of the enemy Pokemon drops. Sometimes you need multiple fights until the value reaches 0. You can then put your own Pokemon in the gym and take the arena for your team.
- Tip: The easiest way to win in arenas is to team up with players from your team. So you fight together against an arena and can occupy it faster. In addition, several slots in the arena can then be filled directly, thus strengthening the defense.
