Pokemon GO: change names - how it works
With Pokémon GO, you can change the names of both your Pokémon and your trainer. The latter is only possible under strict conditions. We explain what these are in this article.
Change trainer name in Pokémon GO
You determine your trainer name when you first start Pokémon GO when you create an account. You can only change the name afterwards once in the game.
- To do this, tap the Poké Ball icon in the middle of the screen.
- Then select the "Settings" entry at the top right.
- Scroll down a little and tap "Change nickname".
- Now enter your new trainer name and confirm the change.
- If you have already changed your name, you only have one request to support via the contact form. Justify your change request there very well. The developers have announced that name changes are only permitted if players accidentally use their real names or other personal information.
- If the support rejects your request, you currently have no choice but to delete the Pokémon GO account and start over.
Pokémon GO: Change the name of your own Pokémon
Unlike your trainer name, you can change your Pokémon's nicknames at any time.
- To do this, tap on the Poké Ball in the bottom center and select the "Pokémon" item.
- Then choose the desired pocket monster from your team.
- In the status report for the Pokémon, tap its name. A pop-up box opens in which you can change the nickname as you wish.
