As in previous editions, you can train in arenas in Pokémon GO. Nevertheless, a lot has changed with the smartphone game compared to the older Nintendo games. We explain the exact differences and reveal how you train your Pokémon.
Pokémon GO: train in arenas
In Pokémon GO you will find arenas all over the map, which are occupied by one of the three teams. If you tap on the appropriate arena, you can compete and train against the deposited Pokémon.
- The fights take place in real time. If you tap the display, your Pokémon will attack the opponent and lower their KP. You can dodge enemy attacks by swiping left or right. All tips on fighting in Pokémon GO can be found in a special article.
- The special thing about it: Your Pokémon will not get stronger through arena battles in Pokémon GO. You only get XP points for each pocket monster you defeat.
- There are a few differences: If you fight in your team's arenas, you will receive 50 XP for each training win. At other teams' arenas, you get 100 XP for each win.
- The arena also receives prestige points. If you have fought often enough and have given your team's arena prestige points, the arena will go up one level. Then a seat in the arena becomes free and you can put in a Pokemon yourself.
- You will receive 10 gold coins and 500 star dust for 21 hours each in the arena.
Fight against other coaches - how it works
In Pokémon GO you can also fight against foreign coaches and friends. We explain how this works here:
- Open the app and click on the "Nearby" function.
- Then click on "fight".
- Now there are several options available to you: you can have your combat code scanned by another trainer, scan the code of another trainer or compete against the three team leaders.
- With all options, you need to put together a team of three Pokémon and choose a league. In a coach fight, your opponent must first confirm the request before you can start.

The more XP you collect, the higher your coaching level will be. This will help you find stronger and rarer Pokémon. We will reveal on the next page how you can further strengthen these.
