Pokemon X / Y: Catch Mewtwo - the best tips and tricks
The legendary Pokémon Mewtu is the strongest Pokémon in Pokémon X and Y. To catch the powerful creature, there are a few pointers to keep in mind. In this practical tip, we will explain where you can find Mewtwo in Pokémon X and Y and what you should consider when fighting the legendary Pokémon.
Pokemon X and Y: Mewtwo - location and preparation
You can also find the veteran Mewtu in Pokémon X and Y, but before you can start the fight you must have successfully completed the Poké League. After that, a cave with the name "Secret Dungeon" in Pokémon Village is automatically uncovered. Inside the cave is none other than the legendary Mewtwo.
- The Mewtwo in Pokémon X and Y has a level of 70 and masters extremely strong psycho-attacks as well as the "recovery" ability with which it can regenerate its CP. For this reason, you should only engage in a battle with the legendary Pokémon as soon as your Pokémon have a comparable level and can survive in a longer fight.
- Before you fight Mewtwo, dress yourself with hyper, dark, fleet, and timer balls. You will need to use these in combat at given times to increase your probability of catching them.
- However, if you still have a master ball, this is your opportunity to avoid a protracted fight and use the master ball right at the start of the fight. With this, you are guaranteed to catch the Pokémon.
- Before you start the fight, you should save your game. So you can just restart the game and try again if you accidentally defeat Mewtwo or run out of balls.
Mewtwo catch probability - tips and tricks
If you have already used the master ball, you have to prepare for a longer fight. The following tips and tricks increase your likelihood of catching the legendary Mewtwo:
- Weaken Mewtwo as much as possible by fighting. The fewer power points (short: KP) the legendary Pokémon has, the more likely you are to catch it. You have particularly good chances if the life bar is in the red area. However, make sure that Mewtwo does not become unable to fight.
- Also try to put the Pokémon in a special status. As soon as the mewtwo suffers from a change in status such as sleep, paralysis or frost, it can no longer attack and the probability of catching it increases. However, you should refrain from poisoning or burning Mewtwo, as it can continue to attack and become disabled due to the change in status.
- Use the right Poké Balls at the right moment: Use Flotballs right at the beginning of the fight, Dark Balls later in the fight, and timer balls during a lengthy fight. Fleet balls have the highest chance of catching at the beginning of the fight, while timer balls are particularly effective in longer fights. Dark balls make sense if there are currently no fleet or timer balls in question.
- In Pokémon X and Y, the "Player Search System" (short: PSS) is available for the first time with which you can use your O-powers. Use the PSS to activate the "catching power" within three minutes before the start of the fight. The catch force increases all activities that favor the catch probability by a certain factor.
- Particularly effective Pokémon to catch Mewtwo are Celebi and Galagladi. The latter in particular can learn attacks such as horror vision, hypnosis, fallacy and mockery, which put Mewtwo in a special status and thus increase the probability of catching them.
To catch a Pokémon as strong as Mewtwo, you should familiarize yourself with the Poké Balls in Pokémon X and Y. In a separate practical tip, we have summarized all Pokéballs in Pokémon X and Y for you and recorded their effects.
